HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHOY YOKE (sowiemon)! :Dwill be meeting her and some others later. for movie and dinner. yayy!
as you all know, i attended charis's church last night. and i must say i enjoyed the sermon very much more than i usually do. partially because it was a testimony. not just part of the scripture in which you can read off from the bible and then elaborate from there. thats really dry and id start getting all restless, if that happens. also, its because the guest speaker himself was just so hilarious in the way he speaks. humour catches my attention, very easily. :)
after he ended with his speech, i felt something. its indescribable. then i began thinking. i asked myself many questions. more obvious ones would be "how did this man manage to pull through all these?" or "how can someone's life be so miserable and mine isnt half as bad, yet i still wallow in self pity once in awhile (we all do it subconsciously many times, trust me)"
the guest speaker was born in Hawaii. his parents were divorced when he was very young. being fatherless itself can already be rather traumatic for a child. on top of that, his sister met with an extremely horrible accident. the very first hospital bill went up to $600,000. and that threw his family (consisting of him, his mom and his sister) into poverty. but thats not all. after the accident, his sister went crazy. really crazy. she was so violent that his mother made him leave the house. otherwise, he would have been dead anytime. just picture it. a 16 year old boy, leaving home against his own will, without any money. he slept on streets, park benches, anywhere. as long as there was a place for him to sleep, he would just use it for the night. and one day, he got so drunk at the pub with his friends that he told three other men at the bus stop to beat him up. he didnt wanna live anymore. every moment just seemed like hell. and so the three men did. they beat him up at first. and whats worse was when they took beer bottles out. they broke it and began to stab him. about 50-60 times altogether. then leaving him there to bleed in a secluded corner. it was then that he decided to find out more about Christianity. because the Lord spoke to him. yeah, seriously! with all the questions that he had, God only went "follow me and you will find out" and that changed his whole life.
how much worse can one's life get?
yet, i still complain about how terrible my life is. my life is nothing compared to his. and i really do admire how he managed to cope with the entire situation!
after hearing his story, i had a really naive thought. that is, if this man can handle all that, i, as another person made by God, should also be able to handle it all too. and hence, my motto of "if God has put me to this, He will put me through it" was even more affirmed.
indeed, the Lord is my pillar of strength. :)
okay, thats all. i aint gonna continue preaching. otherwise i might as well just be a pastor. LOL. but charis! thanks for inviting me over to your church. :D loveloves;
